Clear Pay Ranges Required

New legislation will require job postings to include clear and reasonable pay ranges, helping job seekers make informed decisions and reducing bias in the hiring process.

Building on the Salary History Ban

In 2023, Columbus banned employers from asking about previous salaries — a critical step in closing gender and racial pay gaps. This next step builds on that progress.

Leveling the Playing Field

Pay transparency supports women, people of color, immigrants, and others who've faced historic pay disparities, making Columbus a more equitable and competitive place to work.

Columbus Pay Transparency Initiative

Making Job Opportunities Fair and Accessible for Everyone

Columbus is growing fast, and with new employers comes new opportunities. This pay transparency legislation ensures job seekers know what positions pay before they apply, creating a fairer hiring process for everyone. By requiring employers to include salary ranges in job postings, we're addressing pay gaps, building trust between employers and workers, and making sure Columbus remains competitive as more families and businesses choose to call our city home. This isn't just about fairness —
it's about making sure our city's growth benefits everyone.

Key Outcomes & Benefits

No More Guessing Games
Job seekers will know upfront what positions pay, saving time and creating transparency in the hiring process. This means you can make informed decisions about which opportunities are worth pursuing.

Closing the Pay Gap
Women currently earn 83 cents for every dollar earned by men. Pay transparency helps eliminate bias in hiring and compensation, creating more equitable opportunities for all workers.

Supporting Small Businesses
We want to provide resources to help smaller employers and nonprofits showcase their unique benefits and workplace culture, even when they can't offer the highest salaries.

Keeping Columbus Competitive
Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Toledo already have these laws. Columbus should lead, not follow, in creating fair and transparent hiring practices that attract top talent.
