Columbus Youth Programming Analysis Initiative
Making Sure Every Kid Has Safe Places to Learn and Grow

Every parent knows how important it is to keep kids busy and engaged, especially during after-school hours and summer break. Columbus has amazing programs through recreation centers, the YMCA, Boys and Girls Clubs, and more — but we're not always great at tracking what's happening where. This initiative maps out all youth programming across Columbus so we can fund programs more efficiently, eliminate duplicates, and make sure no neighborhood gets left behind. When we understand what's available and where the gaps are, we can focus our resources on the areas and kids that need them most.
Access to healthy recreational activities is an important part of physical and mental wellbeing, particularly for young people. The Youth Programming Initiative will create a comprehensive inventory and analysis of youth programs across the city and will bring together youth programmers to collaborate on a strategic plan that will create recreational equity for kids living in every Columbus neighborhood. When our youth are thriving, our city thrives.
Key Outcomes & Benefits

Clear Picture of What's Available
We'll use data visualization to see exactly what programs exist, what ages they serve, where they're located, and when they're available. No more guessing about what's happening in different neighborhoods.

Smarter Use of Taxpayer Money
Instead of accidentally funding three sports camps in one area while another has nothing, we can spread resources strategically. Every dollar will work harder to serve more kids.

Better Coordination Between Programs
City departments, community organizations, and neighborhoods will have a clearer picture of what's available, so everyone can work together more effectively without
duplicating efforts.

Focus on Kids Who Need It Most
By identifying gaps in services, we can prioritize funding to make sure all Columbus kids have access to quality programming, regardless of their zip code.
